Nicola and I took the day off from hiking on Sunday and worked on her newly fenced and partially landscaped garden.
We dug, hauled soil and rocks, placed landscape cloth, planted and then mulched. |
Most of the plants were transplants from Eve's garden (she is renovating it) and some from a driveway plant sale. |
Bought and mounted hooks for hanging baskets that she can see from her kitchen window. This is the side yard that has a small deck that now has a newly bought and constructed BBQ on it. |
We also planted in the garage side, patio area, including the lavender bought the previous day. |
It was another tiring day but fun. Dave on the other hand dug out two window wells, installed the metal and backfilled them. Not fun, but necessary. |
Monday, Canada Day, we were back to the Bruce Trail but, because of the heat, only wanted to do about 5km.
We parked my car at the end location and Dave dropped us at the start. |
Up hill on a sun baked road again! We were not far from the Cheltenham badlands which has this red shale but had decided it was too exposed for a hot day. |
At the top of the hill we covered ourselves with anti-tick cream and bug spray. Gross but essential. |
It was a lot cooler and very pleasant walking in the bush. |
Some swampy areas but our bug repellent regime is very effective. |
It was a very easy walk - mostly flat, wide dirt paths - and came out onto the road. I thought the sign a bit pretentious. |
But I guess you can be pretentious when the electric gates "cost as much as my house" (to quote Nicky) |
We drove back to Nic and Dave's, had lunch and I drove home in time to see the Canada Day crowds leaving Long Point. All reports indicate that it was a very crowded busy weekend.
