Hearses, Hot Rods and Hot Dogs

Who knew? There are "Hearse Clubs". Noticed something going on at Powell Park and when Rick and I went to investigate we discovered it was a meeting of a Hearse Club.

The guy we talked to, who was setting up at a tent and getting things organized, said "Well there are corvette clubs and jeep clubs". Good point.

So we came back later in the day to take a look.

It was a joint meeting of hearses, hot rods and sponsored by the Arbour (thus the hot dogs)

This one is actually an ambulance

maybe they don't have their own club.

Some needed some work

Some had been lovingly restored with plush interiors and velvet curtains

or custom paint jobs.

Many of the participants wore black, as if attending a funeral.

There was a macabre, Halloween feel to it,

crossed with a car show

and a lot of humour thrown in.

The hot rod section was more of the conventional car show ilk. Fewer of them than the organizers had anticipated due to the stormy weather.

Some of them

got into the theme.

We stayed for the trophies (repurposed with hot wheels attached to the top) then got home just before another storm hit.

The next day, the dead pine on the bank was cut down

and I anxiously watched them

take off dead limbs overhanging the back lawn and the driveway.
