Paris 2014 - Day 9, Musee D'Orsay

We got up and hung around waiting for Christine and Jason. There was a problem (again) on the RER B and they were a little later than we anticipated. After lunch they decided to have a nap and Chris and I decided to go to Musee D'Orsay. It is down on the river opposite Jardin Tuileries. We took the 38 bus and had a short walk. No line-up at 1pm and, after the security check, we walked in.
I asked the guard at the entrance if I could take pictures and he said "The building yes, the paintings no". So I followed the rules:
This magnificent clock hangs over the entrance.
The museum is housed in a huge, old train station that was built in the late 1800s. By the 1930s the platforms were too short for the national and inter-Europe trains so it was used for the city trains and in the 1980's was converted into the museum.
The centre, open section has sculptures and the galleries are along the sides.
The museum has an excellent collection of Monet's and the other Impressionists. We also enjoyed the Art Nouveau furnishings exhibit, I really wished I could have taken some pictures in there. Chris and I "ambled" (as she said) at a gentle pace, spending more time in the areas we were interested in and just walking through the rest. We probably took about an hour and a half.
I have been here 3 times and always take this shot of the Louvre through the old station clock....
... and this one of the Jardin Tuileries
One of the statues on the roof, looking out over the river and the city.
We found a café for a coffee and to rest our legs and then took the bus back up to Place Denfert Rocheleau. Popped in to the market street because Chris and Jason had said they would shop for and cook dinner but I didn't trust Chris with the cheese selection (her cheese of choice is vache qui rie).
The cheese selection is  a little overwhelming.
When we got home Chris and Jason were still napping. They got up and we went out to the market street again and picked out stuff to make leeks in balsamic vinegar, baby new potatoes and lemon chicken. It was a delicious dinner followed by chopped mangos.
