Thailand - Day 11, ferry to the mainland

This was a very long and activity packed day that started with

an early breakfast beside the beach and then a drive across the island
to catch a large car ferry to the mainland.

We watched the cars being loaded

from up on the top deck, which also gave us a great view

of the variety of water craft in this busy harbour. Sightseeing boats,

a cruise ship,

cruise ship tenders and

a variety of local

fishing boats.

It had been foggy as we left the resort and there was still a misty quality to the landscape.

We set off as a similar ferry was arriving.

I spent my time either on the top deck, with wind and eventually sun

or, a little more sheltered, on the next level down. A few of our group sat in the comfortable seats, inside at this level, dozing near Ammy and our luggage. Most were on the top deck enjoying watching Samui island receding

and the mainland, appearing.

We docked, grabbed our luggage and met at the "pink dolphins" for our "mandatory bathroom break". We had learned by now that Ammy knew what was coming in terms of bathroom facilities and took her recommendations seriously.

Loaded into two minivans for the next stage. Every now and then we would end up with one of these "pimped out" vans with colours changing and music (if we wanted). We dubbed them the "party van" and I tried to avoid them because of the music potential but other than that they were fun.
