Bancroft and Egans Chutes

Grey and occasional drizzle but it was supposed to clear up later so we set off for Bancroft, about an hour away.
We stopped at Silent Lake Provincial Park that had some nice trails listed on the website. When we went in to the office we were told that it was $17 per car to come into the park and we hesitated. Iffy weather, expensive for a short walk. So I did buy a couple of Christmas presents in the store and found out that they are open all year and have yurts, cabins campsites, canoes for rent and trails can be used for snowshoeing and cross country skiing as well as hiking. We continued on to Bancroft while I googled for another hike idea.

The road into the Egan Chutes trail was just off the main highway but too rough for Rick's little, low slung, car, so we parked it and walked in.

We found the parking lot and followed the flat, well walked, trail along next to the York River.

We could see that the river was pretty low and that meant that the waterfalls might just be a trickle, trying to manage our expectations.

But when we got there

it was worth the walk.

We clambered around taking some pictures and then headed back and into Bancroft.

I wasn't impressed with Bancroft. It is not particularly attractive. Turns its back on the river that runs through it. Three thrift stores, a Stedmans (haven't seen one of those in a while) and then brand new Starbucks and Shoppers Drug Mart.

Trying with the murals.

We were hungry and ate at "The Muse Cafe" and then saw some really good work at the Gallery next door.

We stopped in at the local brewery, and when Rick wasn't sure what to get I asked if they did tastings. "We do flights, but if you just want to have a taste while deciding what to buy, we can do that" (If you don't ask.....) He tried 3 and was glad he did as he really didn't like one and would have bought it otherwise.

I love this - kitchen is closed but feel free to bring in food.
