Pakenham's two wonders of Lanark County.

I love Pakenham's "famous" 5 span bridge and am always drawn to take pictures of it.
The world continues to cater to my information board addiction.
Built in 1901
Renovated in 1984, making it a little wider and reinforcing it with cement bases.
This carries the main road through Pakenham and is considered two-way, except for trucks.

The village sits by the Mississippi River
Another board has photos of businesses around the bridge.
There are some remains

on one side of the river
and on the other side is a park where people come to eat a picnic (or ice cream from Scoops), fish or paddle in the rapids or launch a boat in the pool below.
The whole area is just so darn

photogenic! I sat for a while just enjoying the sound of rushing water, trickling water and bird song before checking out
the other "wonder". St Peter Celestine Church, started in 1892. Before the bridge.
Built of local materials by local craftsmen.
The information board raved about the original interior still in place today (one of only 3 churches in Canada)
but the doors were locked.
I've never seen it at night but it looks as if the cross may be lit.
Located on a rise at the edge of the village, the silver spire is one of the first things you notice when approaching. Heather tells me it can be seen from the top of the run at Mount Pakenham ski hill.
