New Brunswick Trip - Day 5, Matane, Quebec to St Andrews by the Sea, New Brunswick.

This was to be out longest driving day and we were up before the alarm and on the road by 7:15am. Quick stop at Tim Horton's for breakfast and coffee and we set out, south, through the occasional fog. We followed a river valley most of the way so the fog stayed with us.

A less than satisfactory photo taken through the car window.

We saw quite a few signs for covered bridges but I only stopped to take a picture of the first one.

We were stopped for roadworks 3 times on this section of the trip

but that gave me the opportunity to get out of the car and take some photos of the mountainous landscape we were driving through.

We were stopped at the New Brunswick border and asked to show our registration from the New Brunswick government (which we had filled out on line before leaving and printed the response) and our proof of vaccination. We were told that we might be asked at various times during our visit to show these documents.

The landscape gradually changed to more rolling hills. The Appalachians.

We have seen a variety of signs warning of moose but this is the first one showing a moose checking for vaccination passports.

The GPS wanted us to follow Hwy 2 to and then Hwy 3. I thought Hwy 630 would cut off a lot of mileage, so we took that.....

I should have read the description of the road symbols first - 40km of dirt road. It would have been a lovely drive if we weren't crawling along, missing potholes and huge stones. Fine in a 4 wheel drive truck, not great in a Prius.

Some nice scenery along the way.

We are staying the next week and a half at Rob and Jen's (Rick's daughter) place. We had vague instructions how to get there and ended up in a text conversation with Jen to find the road in.

Rob was there, leaving the next day, so was able to introduce us to the Red Herring in St Andrews for dinner. My first Lobster Roll (sans roll) of the trip.

Total drive today from Matane to St Andrews.

This was just the New Brunswick part.
