New Brunswick Trip - Day 6, around St Andrews by the Sea

Coffee and breakfast still wondering at the amazing view from the second story of the house (main living area).

Long morning shadows

nearly obscured the deer near the edge of the lawn

We drove to St Andrews (5min away) and parked by the Blockhouse. Built to defend the harbour from privateers during the War of 1812 and one of only 2 remaining in New Brunswick.

As always, I have to read the info boards.

Tide is going out and that's Maine in the distance.

Gull and shore birds.

We walked from there, the few blocks, to downtown.

It's about 3 blocks long with restaurants, inns and gift shops that identify it as a tourist destination. Also a grocery store, liquor store and dollar store that attest to the local inhabitants. My favorite; an art gallery with 90 New Brunswick artists represented.

We turned off the "main drag" and walked to the town wharf

where we watched

boats coming

and going. This may be the boat we are whale watching on tomorrow.

This guy had seen this big plastic tub floating in the water and towed it back, plastic pollution.

Evidence that humans fish here

as do birds (photo by Rick)

Common Loon. I wasn't aware that they also fish in salt water and are commonly found on the East and West coasts in the winter.

Looking back towards downtown.

Cute little fabric store, but, sorry Nic, nothing too exciting.

Very small club house for the St Andrews Yacht Club and no wharf for docking boats

they are all kept out on mooring buoys. (photo by Rick)

We walked around for about two and a half hours

Lots to see and

and a beautiful sunny day, about 20 degrees.

Driving out of town we stopped at the Pendlebury lighthouse, built in 1833 and recently restored.

A deer by the waters edge

wanted to make friends with Rick while

I took pictures of, what I assume were,

clam diggers.

Back at the house we relaxed in the hot tub and had a lazy rest of the afternoon.
