Crete - wind and rain, Rethymno

Housebound by a couple of wildly windy and occasionally rainy days, we ventured out to go for a drive.

The sea was a churning mass of white

and driving west, planning to go to Chania, we pulled over to take some "splash photos". Photo by Rick.

The wind

and crashing waves

were quite spectacular

Tough low shrub just above the tide line.

The buds looked like Poppies but the leaves did not.

We could see that the hills ahead were already obscured by dark clouds and it began to rain. We saw no point in continuing and headed back home, where the rain stopped so we went for a walk instead.

Butchers display their meat in the window

and restaurants let you see into the kitchen.

Cormorants.

This time we walked all around the Venetian harbour.

Sled and winch used to pull the boats out,

up this ramp.

We walked on the old wall (clouds moving in again)

to get pictures looking back

and of the lighthouse, up close.

Dodged the rain showers walking home.
