Cleveland, Edgewater Yacht Club and Westside Market

Sharon loved the Westside Market when she was last here so wanted to visit it again. Unfortunately it wasn't open on Tuesday so we had a day on our hands. We researched on the internet and decided to do the 21/2 hour trolley tour. Phoned and booked the tour. Arranged the cab and then a storm came in; wind and clouds. We decided it looked like rain and we didn't want to be in an open trolley after all. Cancelled the whole idea and relaxed on the boat and then on the clubhouse deck.
The club has a nice main building with a restaurant for members only but a bar/restaurant that we could use as guests, a huge deck overlooking the club and Cleveland, a pavilion overlooking the lake, a pool and sundeck, nice washrooms and showers and free laundry. Time to do 3 loads of laundry (took us 'til 11pm).
While having a glass of wine on the deck, it began to fill with women and we learned it was women's race night. The boat had to be crewed by women throughout the race but a male coach could be on board and could help prior to the race. The trophy, in the clubhouse, indicated this had been conducted since 1999.
Some of the boats going out for women's race night. We were told there were 4 classes: PHRF, Tartan,
and 2 J classes (22 and 70). There were a total of 18 boats out that night.
We got up the next morning and off to an early start. We were at the market by 9am. The building was purpose built in 1922 with the produce area enclosed at a later date.
Westside Market
First of all crepes and coffee for breakfast. I had one with spinach, cheese and egg, made with
buckwheat flour.
The main building looks almost like a train station but has stalls selling meat, fish, cheese, baked goods, pasta.
We bought cheese, fresh pasta and sauce and canollis. (had to indulge the sweet tooth)
Fresh pasta.
Most of our provisioning was fresh fruit and vegetables and our time in that area was great fun. It was like a European market with venders calling out and letting us try the different fruit.

We over bought of course and had to keep reminding ourselves to stick to the list. Luckily all 3 of us went as we were all loaded down with bags by the time we had finished, which included going to a book store and a grocery store.
When we got back to the boat we decided it was too late to leave (over 4 hours of shopping will do that) and so we stayed another night. Wednesday night is the regular race night and Edgewater is a serious racing club. Next post!
