Middle Bass to Vermilion

We left before 10am, after a pump out (free). We motored out through a large group of fishing boats and past a multihull race.

I think these were all trimarans. The mono hulls were racing on the West side
of the island, we could just see them through the cut.
We motor sailed to Vermilion in light winds. I think I even napped, the motion just put me to sleep. We were there by about 2:30 or 3. Paul and Sharon had not been to Vermilion before and we were in awe of how beautiful it was.
The river entrance is protected by a breakwall.
We turned left off the river as soon as we came into the river but ended up in an area of
private docks in front of beautiful homes.
We learned (from the boat taxi driver) that a developer had bought this area of swampland during the depression and created a series of lagoons so that every lot had dockage. Now there are lovely, white, clapboard homes with expensive marine craft in front. We were advised to check whether the yacht club had room so continued up the river for one more "block". Luckily they had room right on the river wall. Expensive ($2 per foot) but a lovely position and great facilities.

Nope not the yacht club, private, oh well.

Zatarra 1  on the river wall at the Vermilion Yacht Club (established 1933, dry!)
We took the water taxi (we just called and they came and picked us up, $2 per person one way) and walked around a nice little downtown but most places were closed as it was Sunday. The chocolate shop and the ice cream shop were open, we partook. We were told there were 3,000 boats in Vermilion.
The game in Vermilion seemed to be "to see and be seen", we saw numerous boats just motoring up and down the river.
This was something I have never seen before, an air brush painted hull with dolphins, star fish, coral, etc etc. Glad I saw that.
Back to the boat to cook supper and take pictures of the sunset from the yacht club deck.
The yacht club had a deck overlooking the river, a large lounge area for guests and another for members (78 of
them), a washroom/shower that could be from House and Home, a BBQ and dining area out back, fuel dock (where the water taxi picked us up) and free Tim Hortons  coffee in the morning. Couldn't be better.

Sunset from the deck, with 4 members from Toledo to chat with.
