Ceret - 3rd market day, really a mobile department store.

The cafe nearest to us is Café Du France. It was closed for renovation when we got here and we have been watching the progress with interest.
This is what was going on the first week we were here. There has been scaffolding,
trucks, welders, painters, power washers, plasterers, electricians etc.
The last couple of evenings when I have gone out for a stroll, the lights have been on and people have been painting, staining and cleaning long into the evening. Its looked quite frantic. They were due to open on Friday according to the sign. I'm sure they wanted to be open before the Carnival on Sunday.
This is what greeted us as we went for croissant this morning, ready and looking very smart.
We were, this morning, too late for croissant nature but instead had to settle for croissant buerre, not sure how that worked but really who cares, its all good. Heather, in an e-mail, asked the difference, "don't they all have buerre?" I looked it up and it seems the ones with butter have more fat (20% vs 5%, and use more butter, though she is right they do all have butter. The internet site I found was in French and was a fitness coaching site. It made the point that no croissant is a good nutrition choice. Really?).

A booth at the market selling sheep skins and sheep skin clothing.
The Saturday market is for more than produce though there is a huge amount and variety of that. For this post I took pictures of what else you can find at the market.
There are a number of stalls selling leather goods, including purses, messenger bags, slippers.
shoes, belts and wallets.
A couple of stalls sell tights, leggings and socks. There are some pretty wild leggings
to be had.
Shoes and boots, some quite high end, others quite cheap. One shoe stall is in a large white van
where the walls sort of fold down to become display areas.
The sign at this booth indicated they could be used for the beach, bathroom or décor. I think they are
cotton throws and they were in lovely colours.
Fabric, towels,
table clothes, napkins, aprons, table runners, sheets, pillow cases,
watches, jewelry, phone accessories, tools, hardware,
straw bags, scarves, hats, gloves,
sweaters, shirts (this stall sells silk and cashmere), pants, t-shirts, sweat shirts,

umbrellas (yes, it was raining today), sewing notions and yarn. It has got it all.
I bought yarn here that was labelled laine, wool, I thought, but when I got it home
and read the label it said acrylic. Moral; don't shop without your glasses.
Lynn sent an e-mail congratulating Mum on her castle climbing and offered to treat her to a sweet in celebration. So, we broke our self imposed ban on deserts and shared one from the market tonight.
We had a slice of the one at the top; banana, chocolate, pineapple, coconut and almond. Thank you
Lynn, it was delicious.
