Dad just downloaded an app that allows him to take a picture of the label and it then tells him everything he wants to know about the wine (and then some) and reviews from a variety of sources. The app, for those interested, is called Vivino.
We decided to check out the wine co-operative that we frequented last time, Chateau D'Aubiry, just outside of Ceret. It's really easy to find because the chateau is obvious as you drive into town from the highway. Unfortunately, as it is Monday, it was closed.
The wine co-operative (or cave) is separate from the chateau itself. Serious gates attest to this. |
Through the gates there are some enticing glimpses. |
The chateau is immediately surrounded by woods and a high wall, topped with a metal fence. That's Canigou in the background. |
Grape vines along one side, cherry orchards in front and it looks across the valley to Ceret and the Pyrenees beyond. |
Our landlady, Margie, thinks that it has finally sold and anticipates that the broken windows will be replaced and it will be restored to its former glory.
From there we drove the 20 minutes or so to Angeles sur Mer, for our first view of the Mediterranean.
A long sandy beach with a wide promenade to walk, lined by Palm trees. Lots of low rise apartments and the feel of a holiday town, though very quiet now, out of season. |
