Ceret - the ongoing search for the church.

Our favorite boulangerie/patisserie, that had been closed for vacances for 10 days, reopened today. Oh dear, the croissant may not have been as good as yesterdays, from another bakery that just reopened. We are now going back and forth re which are our favorite. This , I acknowledge, is pretty decadent but we are amusing ourselves with the challenge of finding the best croissant in town. Then, when walking to the post office, we noticed that the chocolate shop has also reopened and sells croissant and baguette, another one to try. I believe that takes the total to 6 different places to get croissant in the morning, within the town centre.
Today was back to cold and windy. By this I mean about 7 degrees and a strong wind from the north. Everyone is again walking around in winter coats, hats, scarves and gloves. Most of Europe is cold, snow in the mountains, northern France and England. Nothing like the cold weather at home and we are thinking sympathetic thoughts for those in southern Ontario and their cold weather alerts.
After breakfast today we set off for Le Perthus (Dad was nearly out of Scotch) and looked in a different area for the church we thought we had found yesterday. Not far off the road to Le Perthus we found it.
A sign off the main road, over a little bridge ( another sign indicated that the road was submersible) and
this small sign on the wall beside the church. Chapel of St-Martin-de-Fenollar. The sign also
indicated that the only day it was closed was Tuesday. We'll be back.

We continued on to Le Perthus and explored a couple more shops. Dad bought his scotch and we also bought pate, mussels in spicy sauce (to go in the paella tonight) and strawberries. We have been waiting for the Spanish strawberries to come into season and this is just the start of them, 6 Euro a kg.
After lunch Mum and I walked down to the Devil's Bridge.
Pont du Diable was built in 1321 and at the time was the longest span in France. The
myth is that the builder sold the soul of the first to cross to the devil, in exchange for
his help.
The bridge is still in use, pedestrian traffic only, and a new bridge for the road has been constructed next to it, along with one for the railway. It is still a magnificent span.
I walked down a side street to the river below to get this shot. The little blue dot
on the bridge is Mum, trying to sketch but it was too windy. Behind the devils bridge,
the new road bridge and behind that, the rail bridge.
We walked back in spitting rain and decided it was a good day to sit inside with a book (or in my case an e-book)

On our way home we walked past a tiny "dog park". From my observations I would say
all of Ceret is a dog park. Many people have dogs on leashes, many have them obediently
walking beside with no leash and there are many also roaming free. These are not feral
dogs they are obviously well cared for, they are just let out to roam. No-one seems to
"pooper scoop"!
