New Orleans road trip - Day 7 - Vicksburg to New Orleans

It was mostly a driving day and the land around changed from huge fields of cattle to swamp and the road up on concrete posts. There was also a lot less traffic as we got further south and certainly fewer trucks. Still cold though.
We pulled into the KOA at about 3:30, unhitched the trailers and set them up. This involves undoing the sway bar and weight distribution systems, unhooking the trailer electrical system from the vehicle, taking the trailer off the hitch, winding down the legs, hooking up the electricity, water and sewer pipe to the trailer, turning on the propane (for the furnace and the hot water heater), turning on the frig and checking nothing has come loose and rolled around in the trailer while on the road. Aimee said that while returning from their Thanksgiving camping trip with family, the frig door had opened while on route and at home she discovered the turkey gravy had fallen out and was all over the trailer floor!
We then drove into New Orleans via the levee road and drove around the French Quarter a little. Looking forward to exploring it on foot. On the way back we stopped at Charles Seafood Restaurant. What a find! It is not far from the campground, was full of locals and had delicious food. We will be going back.
Part of the menu. Deep fried almost everything.
I had a pound of the gulf shrimp (on the left) which were good sized shrimp with a bit of hot pepper bite to them. Aimee and Greg each had a pound of the Royal red shrimp (on the right) which were even bigger, came from Florida and tasted like lobster. Greg had gumbo, we shared a bowl of grits (delicious buttery, cheesy, creamy, with bits of red pepper and shrimp in them), Greg had french fries, I had mixed vegetable and ended with a slice of Key Lime Pie. Sigh!!!
It was a messy meal.
