In 2014, as we left Keswick, we followed signs to the Castlerigg standing stones. I remember them as being up a tiny laneway, in the middle of nowhere. When we looked them up, it turns out that they are just up the road we are staying on.

We turned left at the end of our driveway
and within no time
we were in the countryside.
Last time it was magical...finding it unexpectedly, early in the morning with no one there. I expected to be disappointed.
It did not disappoint.
The sun was low in the sky giving misty mountains and long shadows.
There were more people around than last time but it was still possible to get pictures
with no one in them.
The setting, up on a hill, surrounded by higher hills was still magnificent.
The mystery still fascinating.
Just as before, we all took
masses of photos.
There was a woman taking pictures of some felted sheep with the stones in the background. She was doing this in locations around the community to use in a fund raising calendar for her sons school.
She let me use her ladder to get a different angle.
Old gate system, poles into the holes in the rock. We walked back down the road to the house, eating blackberries from the hedgerows along the way, to use the washroom and for me to get my spare camera battery.
Then down into town to buy tickets for the boat, at the tourist office. We had packed a picnic so didn't
pick up pastys at the shop
but we did yesterday so I wanted pictures.
