Yorkshire Dales .... staying close to home

I have been eating way more than I usually do, much richer and more calorific, so today I needed to stay close to the washroom to give my stomach time to stabilize. Heather and Don set off up the hill across the river from our cottage and experienced wind, drizzle, sun and a rainbow...a regular weather day for around here.

The kitchen, with the entry door to the right.

The dining area with the entry way to the left.

The living room which has a coal fire set ready for us to use.

Upstairs there are three bedrooms and a bathroom. From old photos it looks as if it started life as a barn, then a garage.

After lunch we went looking for a bridge we had read about that was just a few miles up the road.

We opted to park on this little bridge and walk down the narrow road,

beside a rough and tumble stream.

This little flock look like an ovine biker gang.

We have seen many pheasants but by the time I get my camera lined up and focused, they are off, and come out as a blur.

The little bridge deserved its billing

with it's narrow road way,

its sweeping, welcoming stone walls and

it's elegant arch.

Ivelet Bridge crosses the River Swale near Ivelet.[1] Dating from the late 16th century, the bridge has been designated a Grade II* listed structure.[2] from Wikipedia.

We took pictures

from all angles and then

continued up the road to the hamlet of Ivelet.

Not much to see so we walked back down

and caught a sheep dog getting a lift.

Mushrooms

and moss

and a final view.

Back home and I was feeling like stretching my legs more, even though the light was going.

Up a path that I had not yet explored

Beautiful views,

another disappearing pheasant

and a topiary sheep.

Supper at the pub and we were seated in front of the blackboard with the "specials".

Said goodbye to "Ahndee" who assured us that we wouldn't find as good a pub in Keswick.
