End of the 2014 racing season

Monday September 29, 2014, was the last race of the Port Dover racing season and I was on the committee boat as I have been every Monday night in June and September. Aside from enjoying being on the water, with none of the stress/work of racing, there are some other benefits. Jeff and Jacqui have been excellent hosts and are always organized and ready to run a good race.
On the committee boat, Enigma, before starting the race. Al with his GoPro camera on his head.
The committee boat volunteers are a nice group of people and we work well together, each with their role. Watching the race gives the opportunity to analyse tactics, observe close calls and take photographs.
So here's some of the September photos:
Close, after the start, but no-one went over the line early (that's one of my jobs)
They are all going to the same place, turning around a mark and coming back to the same place (sometimes
doing this a number of times) but often they go off in different directions. That's "tactics" and it's fun to see
who made the best choices.
We always start them sailing upwind so it's not until they round the "windward" mark that they turn and put
up the spinnakers.
I love getting pictures of the big, colourful "chutes"...
... but it doesn't always ...
.. go well.
What's happening on the left is called "shrimping" and above was
an "hourglass".
Often the wind is coming from the west, therefor we send the boats off to the west and have the challenge of
taking photos into the setting sun.
By the end of September the final boats may be finishing in the dark.

To quote Deiter, on Caliedascope's crew, "its only 8 months 'til we get to race again".
