UK 2014, The Gower

Christine and I went to a part of South Wales called "The Gower". I drove, to have more practice and to get gas before my trip up north tomorrow. We drove "over the top" to quote Chris, through an area where there was a cattle grid in the road and then onto a moor area which was "common grazing". There were horses (mostly Welsh Mountain Ponies), Highland Cattle (lost or on holiday?) and sheep just loose, some on the road. We parked and then walked along another part of the coastal path.
We saw a kestrel, gliding on the updrafts, at eye level.
Christine told me that they had seen seals, when they were canoeing this coast, so of course
my eyes were peeled for seals. No luck.

We did watch wet suited surfers - crazy cold I would think.
We then went to Mumbles, had a meal in a café (Chris phoned and wished me good morning) and walked up to the castle.
Part of Oystermouth Castle. It was closed and would have cost 3 pounds to go in.
We walked back to the car, drove to Swansea (I was really getting the roundabout practice today!) and went to the museum by the marina. It had displays about Welsh industry and a recent display about the role the Welsh industry played in the first World War; tin for food shipped to the troops, wool for uniforms, coal for rail and ships, steel for bombs and the role of women in those industries. Very interesting.

  1. You could have told us that there were seals, and that they were in those photos - your pictures of seals are always terrible.

This looks like a beautiful walk. So green!
