UK 2014, Castlerigg Stone Circle and on to Kingussie.

We were up early, packed, breakfasted and Heather went to find Eccles Cakes (she hadn't had one yet). Left Keswick at about 9:15 and drove to the Castlerigg Standing Stones.
Diagram, on the National Trust sign of the stone circle.
The location of the stone circle, 4500 years old, is amazing. It is on a hill, in the centre of a valley, surrounded by mountains.
Walking up the hill, from the road (we just parked on the side of the road) the stones are
silhouetted against the surrounding hills.
The only people there were a group of about 5, all with tripods and SLR cameras with major lenses. Looked like a photography class. When they left there was only one other person there. Amazing, we had the place pretty well to ourselves.
We could see from there that the mountains back towards Keswick were socked in with cloud.

On the way back to the highway we came across a pen of sheep. Heather insisted that
they were just being moved to another field, not to market.

Three border collies in the back of the pick up truck.

We then got on the road for our long drive to the Highlands of Scotland. We drove on a number of Ms until we ended up on the A9 for a long time. Don and I took turns driving which was nice as when we got into Scotland it was lovely to be able to look at the scenery.
We were nearly at Kingussie when Don proposed a different route than the A9. So we ended up at the Dalwhinnie Distillery. Both Don and Heather are Scotch drinkers so I am sure this is the first of many Distillery visits.

Finally, after about 6 hours, we got to Kingussie, where we will spend our next 7 days.
