UK 2014, Inverness

We were all up early as the car had to returned to Inverness by 9:30. Done successfully in spite of not getting off the A9 at the right exit. The rental agency, Enterprise, then drove us to the train station, in a Land Rover. We found out how to get home by bus or train and then started to explore Inverness.
We walked through the Victoria Market, little shops in an old market building, and
found a café to have breakfast.
Perhaps the only salmon we'll see, one end of a bench outside the tourist office.
At the other end of the bench, our only otters. There were some in the Derwentwater
but we never saw them.
We walked up to Inverness castle and looked down at the flooded Ness River. The castle is used as a
courthouse, so you can't look inside unless you break the law.
Statue of Flora MacDonald, who helped Bonnie Prince Charlie escape, in front of
the Inverness Castle (with a disrespectful seagull atop)
We split up and I walked along side the river and then back into the old section. There are not that many really old buildings, many have been torn down to make way for modern.
A beautiful Celtic cross in the graveyard of an old church beside the river. I don't know the name
because I gave my map away to a young German couple who were asking me the way (truly lost!)
I met up with Heather and Don again at Marks and Spencers. As there are not many shops in Kingussie and we no longer have a car this was our last chance for souvenir shopping and Inverness is a good location for this purpose.
We stopped at a pub for a pint. Cider and beer are poured right to the top of the pint glass. I
had taken a sip from this glass in order to be able to transport it from the bar to the table.
I have to assume it means Ladies. Scottish is used on some signs as well as English but not
as consistently as in Wales.
Heather returned from the washroom and told me I had to take my camera when I went. After the Jamie Oliver bathroom post there's no stopping me now. This is what she wanted me to see:
The Naughty Vend sold such things as Scotch Whisky flavoured condoms and Inflatable
Sheep (because the real ones run away)
We had a "take away" Cornish Pasty and got to the train station just in time to get our tickets, walk to the platform and get on the train and it left.
Getting dark (time change last weekend here) as we disembarked at the Kingussie train station.
I am trying some red wines here that I haven't seen in Canada. My favourite so far has been Cotes Catalan
however it was only carried by the Tesco Express in Harrogate. Heather and Don are continuing with their
interestingly named beers.
