Coming up into the village, from Papantonios, the road does a z bend around this building. At the right is the Panorama Lounge and on the left is the Community Hall.
When the Panorama Lounge is open (I have yet to figure out their hours), the cars line the street (illegally parked) right where there is a bend and a T junction! Although they do serve some snacks it is primarily a place to have a drink and enjoy the view and seems to be frequented mostly by young people.
I have never seen any activity at the Community Hall so I was surprised when there was a notice on Facebook that there would be an embroidery exhibition held there. I made a note of the date and this Sunday went to see if I had the right place.
The door was open and there were a few women walking around looking at the displays.
Just a couple of quilts
Most pieces, or group of pieces, had a label.
There were all kinds of hand work
Most was done in white but there was some coloured work.
Some may have been heirlooms as traditionally a dowry of table clothes, bed linens and decorative items would be created for a bride.
Curtains |
Blankets |
Table cloths and shawls.
There was quilting, crochet, embroidery, lace, cutwork, cross stitch, tapestry, weaving and techniques that I don't even have a name for. Some talented people in this village.
On the painting front - I tried a monochromatic "Statue of Poseidon"
On the reading front - just finished this. Lovely descriptions of life on a small Greek island.
Guest Photographer - Jeanette (one of the Saturday walkers)
Is she in Canada?
No, she's visiting family in the UK.
