Cyprus - Polis walk

Wednesday's walk, my last with this group, was near Polis, on the north side of the island. It took a little over an hour to get there. A good turn out, 14 walkers.

Flat walking, mostly on paved roads. I carried my hiking poles, never had to use them.

We stood and watched, fascinated, as this digger picked up the gravel, rinsed it in the stream and dumped it, cleaned, free of sand, into a truck.

Unusual to see running water but the climate is a little different on the north side, wetter.

Past an old water mill

and an abandoned

and locked, mosque.

It looked like it had been maintained

while the closest house to it, probably also Turkish, did not.

Past the usual, orange groves and

also past some plants

that none of us could identify,

different ecosystem.

Lunch in Polis: Calamari and jacket potato with cream garlic mushrooms on it.

When we finished eating the waiter put plates of oranges on the table, "complementary". Then when we went to pay the owner said "Please take some oranges with you. I have so many. They are Jaffa". We did and they are delicious.
