The bus took a slightly different route and we passed the ferry dock at Souda. |
Man with a pet bunny, asking for money "for its food". |
We took a different route than last time, wandering down narrow streets lined with shops...some touristy, some not. |
We were planning on going to the Maritime Museum and I didn't want to cut it short because I was hungry so we stopped to eat. |
While waiting for our order I took a photo of the beer glasses on a neighbouring table. 3 U.S. Navy sailors on shore leave. We noticed groups of them strolling the town. |
My shrimp and avocado salad and Rick's burger. |
We took our time going through the old town |
to the harbour. It was a grey, misty day, threatening rain. |
There was some sort of major construction going on at the entrance to the Maritime Museum so we couldn't go in. Another reason for me to return. |
Walked back around the harbour |
past the old Venetian buildings |
and the Venetian ship building and storage sheds |
which are mostly large Pigeon coops now. |
One has been renovated into a bar with |
the Chania Sailing Club on the second floor |
offering, among other things, a sailing school for kids, on Optomists and Lasers. |
The bar lets you take a drink on the long walk out to the lighthouse. |
We made the walk without the beverage. |
Taking photos of the town with its snowy mountain backdrop. |
They must have had an excess of cannons to use them like this along the breakwall walk. |
It was a pity it was such a grey day |
because the town is |
quite colourful |
We walked all the way back around to |
where I sketched, the first time we came. |
Up into a different section of the old town |
and got an ice cream next to a place the gives pedicures |
using fish! |
We had just missed a bus back so had to while away an hour waiting for the next one. |
