Port de Soller, Mallorca, Spain - taxi tour, Coves del Drac

Today was the day that Pierre had available to take us on our "taxi tour" but unfortunately the girls had found it difficult to sleep and had giggled, talked and generally been rambunctious until  after 2am. There 3 consequences to this
  1. Heather felt slightly ill and ended up going back to bed and not joining us on the taxi tour
  2. Sarah and Fiona were both very tired, gave it their best, but slept every time there was an opportunity in the car
  3. Liz, who was staying in the apartment downstairs was not impressed but did however learn that when both apartments are rented, loud upstairs tenants can be heard.
Pierre picked us up at 9am and we drove across the island to Porto Cristo by 10:30. Bought tickets to the 11am entrance at Coves del Drac and had time for coffee and hot chocolate. Buses had come in and it was quite a lineup and crowded along the walkways in the caves.
I have been inside a number of cave tourist attractions
this had by far the most
and most varied
formations
The ceiling was covered in stalactites. I got dripped on a couple of times.
There were all kinds of columns

and other shapes.
The walkway sloped gently downwards, occasionally with steps
Lit with white lights, the different colours of the formations showed up and were sometimes reflected in pools of still water.

It was warm (constantly 21 degrees) and humid.
Eventually we made our way
into a large cavern that sloped down to a pool. We sat on benches and were asked not to take videos or photos. Being a rule follower, I didn't, but others did and disturbed the pitch darkness with their cameras and phones.
Gradually the dim lights came up on the pool and lit boats floated into view. One held  musicians; a cellist, 2 violinists and a piano player and we had about 15 minutes of classical music as they were rowed on the pool. Afterwards the lights came up and we were invited to walk out or take a ride on the boats.
We took the boat option

After the boat ride it was a short walk up to the exit from the caves and back into the bright sunlight.
Here we rejoined Pierre and found a picnic table for the lunch we had bought with us,
surrounded by peacocks
that ate from our hands
and a cat, who Sarah befriended, who was terrified of the birds.
To be continued........
